The Senior Environmental Data Scientist, will spearhead the design, development, and deployment of AI-driven digital solutions that address pressing challenges in air quality, wastewater surveillance, climate resilience, and biodiversity monitoring. This role bridges scientific operations, advanced data analytics, and digital innovation, ensuring delivery of impactful products that shape public health, sustainability, and policy outcomes. 

Responsibilities

AI & Product Development 

  • Design, develop, and validate AI/ML models for environmental data analysis, prediction, and decision support. 
  • Translate complex scientific and regulatory requirements into scalable AI-driven solutions. 
  • Collaborate with experts in microbiology, chemistry, genomics, and environmental sciences to ensure product accuracy and relevance. 
  • Deploy explainable and reliable AI tools that integrate multi-source datasets, including laboratory, IoT sensor, and field data. 
  • Help grow the Digital EVS portfolio 

Data Strategy & Analytics 

  • Lead the acquisition, curation, and harmonization of diverse environmental datasets. 
  • Build scalable data pipelines and infrastructure for real-time monitoring and predictive modeling. 
  • Develop dashboards and visualization platforms to support scientists, policymakers, and other stakeholders. 
  • Ensure compliance with international standards in data ethics, governance, and regulatory frameworks. 

Cross-Functional Collaboration & Engagement 

  • Partner with internal teams (lab scientists, engineers, clinicians, business development) to align AI solutions with organizational goals. 
  • Collaborate with regulators, research institutions, and government agencies on joint initiatives and policy-driven projects. 
  • Present technical proposals and insights to both technical and non-technical audiences, including executives, clinicians, and policymakers. 
  • Represent M42 in global forums, conferences, and collaborations related to AI, public health, and environmental innovation.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications 

  • Advanced degree (MSc or PhD) in Data Science, Artificial Intelligence, Environmental Sciences, Computational Biology, or related field. 
  • Proven experience in designing and deploying AI solutions within scientific, environmental, or healthcare contexts. 
  • Proficiency in programming languages such as Python and or R, with expertise in ML frameworks (TensorFlow, PyTorch, Scikit-learn). 
  • Strong knowledge of environmental datasets (e.g., wastewater surveillance, air quality monitoring, biodiversity studies). 
  • Experience with data visualization platforms (e.g., Power BI, Tableau, Dash) and real-time monitoring tools. 
  • Solid understanding of data governance, ethics, and regulatory compliance. 

Preferred Qualifications 

  • Experience leading cross-disciplinary projects involving environmental sciences, public health, and digital innovation. 
  • Demonstrated track record of publishing or presenting applied AI research in peer-reviewed journals or global conferences. 
  • Familiarity with UAE regulatory frameworks and international sustainability initiatives.
  • Strong stakeholder management and science communication skills.
