Overview

The Bioinformatician, role at M42 focuses on driving innovation in genomics and bioinformatics, particularly within the Emirati Genome Program (EGP)—one of the largest population genomics projects globally. This position will play a key role in analyzing large-scale genomic datasets, leveraging long-read sequencing technologies, and developing strategies to explore population genomics and methylation data. The candidate will work within the Bioinformatics (BIX) team, collaborating with multidisciplinary experts across M42 Healthcare to develop AI-driven healthcare solutions and advance genomic research.

Responsibilities

  • Contribute to the analysis of a large-scale population genomics dataset (500K+ samples) within the EGP.

  • Develop and implement strategies for characterizing long-read sequencing data and methylation cohorts.

  • Design methodologies for GWAS, PheWAS, and region-based algorithms (e.g., SKAT) in population genomics.

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including Applied Science, Engineering, and Omics, to drive research and commercial projects.

  • Ensure compliance with bioinformatics best practices, data security, and documentation standards.

Qualifications

Must-Have:

  • PhD or equivalent experience in Genomics, Bioinformatics, Statistics, or a related field.

  • 5+ years of experience in academic or industry bioinformatics research.

  • Strong programming skills in Python, R, Bash, and experience with genomic data frameworks.

  • Expertise in population genomics, GWAS, ancestry analysis, CNV, SV, and family-based analyses.

  • Hands-on experience with long-read sequencing technologies.

Good-to-Have:

  • Knowledge of Statistical Genetics, Machine Learning, or AI Applications in Genomics.

  • Familiarity with Hail, Glow, and bioinformatics collaboration tools (Git, Jira, Confluence).

  • Understanding of disease etiology and functional genomics.
