Overview

The role is responsible for developing, performing, and refining specialized genomic and molecular laboratory tests on patient samples. It requires a high level of technical expertise, particularly in genomic methodologies, to ensure that all tests are executed with precision and in strict adherence to M42 and DOH/DHA policies, procedures, and quality standards. The incumbent is also accountable for the preparation, calibration, and ongoing maintenance of genomic laboratory equipment and instruments, ensuring optimal functionality and reliability to support high-throughput and accurate genomic testing workflows.

Responsibilities

  • The individual strictly adheres to M42 and DOH/DHA policies, procedures, and quality standards, ensuring full compliance with all regulatory, accreditation, and certification requirements.

  • They play a key role in driving operational excellence by identifying inefficiencies, implementing corrective actions, and continuously improving laboratory workflows, especially in high-complexity areas such as genomics and molecular diagnostics.

  • Their responsibilities include performing and supervising specialized laboratory tests—such as HLA and genomic testing—ensuring precision, accuracy, and adherence to internationally recognized laboratory protocols.

  • The role involves maintaining, calibrating, and optimizing laboratory instruments used in molecular procedures, including PCR, DNA extraction, and sequence-based typing, to guarantee reliable and consistent test results.

  • The technologist collaborates effectively with interdisciplinary teams, supports ongoing meetings with professionalism and confidentiality, and completes all assigned performance evaluations and reporting in a timely manner.

  • They ensure adequate inventory management, staff coordination, and resource allocation while embedding quality assurance and risk management principles into all aspects of lab operations.

  • Additionally, they remain current with scientific advancements in genomics, molecular biology, and HLA testing, and contribute to the implementation of innovative techniques to enhance the lab's diagnostic capabilities and clinical impact.

Qualifications

  • BSc in Medical Laboratory Technology/ Medical Laboratory Science
  • 5+ years clinical experience in a clinical laboratory since first registration as a qualified laboratory science professional.
